Listen.

If it's not a huge inconvenience for the two of you, would you mind joining me on my other blog? It's right here. It might be way better - who knows?
xoxoxo,
Rebecca
ps. I really hope you don't mind. I have this dog that needs to be walked like 5 times a day, and I have to wake up in the night to tweet against my best interest. Cannot possibly remember to blog as well. You understand.

Around here.

Around here, we've sucked the marrow out of summer - so much so that I forgot to tell you anything about it. YES! Life is so good I forgot to blog about it!
And? Read this beautiful piece by Erin Loechner. You'll be so happy you did.
And? The kids have gone back to school. So far, so good (it's been 3 days).

Roam freely.

Seriously? Is the summer practically over? Because, it's my favorite. Suddenly it's not an expanse of sun-drenched lazy days stretching out as far as we can see, but not enough weeks in which to wedge a season's worth of adventure.
And? I bought school shoes today. I don't want to talk about it.

Our pup dictates the rhythm of our days now, and I'm grateful to have a fabulous dog-friendly West Marin Bed and Breakfast (lunch and dinner) (you cook) (it's my parents' house) where I am allowed to roam freely and for free.
Ongoing feelings of failure and inadequacy have been mitigated by the President of the United States, who told me: You failed? Well, that's what you get for trying.*
And by my favorite cheerleader/therapist/parents who said: Shut up, you're doing a great job.** And: Maybe, read more fiction and fewer tweets.**

* I'm paraphrasing. And inferring.
Also, he wasn't talking to or about me. I found it inspirational anyway.
** Again, totally paraphrasing.

You win some....

And then there's that other thing - where your tent collapses in the wind and you forgot the camp stove (again). At least you know when to cut your losses and go home to make s'mores in the backyard. And wonder why you ever leave your backyard. Everyday adventures, people.

Peace.

It's been a rough week, America. I don't begin to know what to say about it, except that we all have some hard work to do. And maybe we should stop tweeting - I'm talking about all y'all, not just one a y'all.

Around here.

Around here, we are eating the heck out of the produce aisle. And acknowledging the fact that a choice we made (puppy) is limiting our freedom of movement. Which is fine - but we're going to have to get a little more creative with our adventures....
Also -
1. If you're an Austen scholar, please email me because I have a question about opportunism in Pride & Prejudice.

Done.

Well, kind of. Not really. Not at all. Nevermind.
As of today, we are officially done with the 2015/16 school year here. And done with Elementary School altogether - which is bittersweet and slightly heart breaking and totally stomach turning. No chance to go back and do that over. Better.
I'm ready though. To move into the next part of my parenting journey. I'm calling this part: teach them to make toast and send them to college. I may also teach them what the branches of government do, when to use a turn signal, and how to be a good boyfriend. The list keeps getting longer. I'll let you know how it goes.

One of my kids just came in to ask when the Cold War was, and whether it was scary for me.

Shadow does not understand why everyone does not want to be friends with her. She is very confused by joggers, cats, and squirrels who do not want to hang out. Also, not everyone wants her to lick their baby. Weird, right?

One more thing - I love these pictures.

Summer Mom.

Kids, Mama, and dog had a semi half holiday last weekend in West Marin and now we are wholeheartedly longing for summer. Three arduous weeks of school left and every minute packed with activity and a year's worth of academic detritus coming home in paper bags.

Summer Mom should be here any minute. She's my favorite. Autumn Mom makes you do your homework and Holiday Mom is a little stressed out, Spring Mom has allergies, but Summer Mom? Is the best. She smells like sunscreen, has a flip-flop tan and takes you to the drive-through for milkshakes when it's too hot in the car. She lets you stay in your pajamas as long as you want; encourages it even. She'll pretty much let you climb up whatever you want. And take your picture. She isn't so strict about what you eat for dinner most nights and when you go to bed. This summer we have a new challenge - dog-friendly adventures.... We'll see how it goes.

So far: She does not love the beach.

Okay, that was amazing.

Thank you times one million to the millions of you who came to visit during Maker Faire. It seemed like there were a million of you - and except for that one guy, you were all so Nice! When you work in a room by yourself all the time, it does you some good to get out a hear some feedback. Plus, I sold out of a couple of bags, which sounds super braggadocios (and is) but that's never happened to me before, so you'll have to allow it just this one time. It's nice to know that I'm going in the right direction. You've bolstered my confidence in my own vision and I'm wandering in to self-important territory again, but thank you for that. XO!
A most heartfelt thanks to the folks at San Francisco Bazaar who took such good care of us in inclement weather.

Excuses, Maker Faire, And More....

I have a list of weak excuses for not writing. They are boring. Plus, I'm the only one who ever expected me to blog with any regularity. Let's move on, shall we?

I've been sewing my bootie off in preparation for the MAKER FAIRE this weekend. So so so excited! New colors, new bags - check out my Instagram for the latest good stuff, because: while I'm an unsatisfactory blogger and I don't quite understand Twitter - I do love Instagram.

Soak it in, Babies!

Yosemite is not fair. In the same way that Hawaii isn't fair to the other states.

Sometimes it's not enough just to drag your kids to one of the most spectacular piles of rocks in the world. You have to force march them into a meadow and demand that they stop talking about video games just for a moment. Fling out your arms! Tip your head back and soak it in, Babies!
